Intake and exhaust must be balanced
Good ventilation pulls cool air in at the soffits and pushes hot, moist air out at the ridge. Most problems we find come from blocked soffit vents or mixing exhaust types, such as a ridge vent combined with box vents, which short-circuits airflow.
Signs your attic isn't breathing
- Rusty nails or dark staining on the underside of the decking
- Blistering shingles on the upper part of the roof
- Upstairs rooms that are much hotter than the rest of the house
Correcting ventilation during a roof replacement is inexpensive and one of the smartest upgrades you can make.
