How to File a Hail Damage Claim Without the Headache

I spent eight years working as an insurance adjuster before joining LoneStar. The biggest difference between smooth claims and painful ones usually comes down to what happens in the first 72 hours.

Step 1: Document the storm

Note the date and time, and save photos of hail on the ground, damaged cars or dented patio furniture. This helps establish the storm event.

Step 2: Get a professional inspection first

Before you call your carrier, have a reputable roofer confirm there's actual damage. Filing a claim for a roof without covered damage can still go on your claims history.

Step 3: File promptly and meet the adjuster together

When your adjuster visits, have your roofer there. We point out every impact, walk the soft metals and make sure test squares are marked correctly.

Step 4: Review the estimate line by line

First estimates often miss items like drip edge, starter strips, ice and water shield or code-required upgrades. These are handled through a supplement, and that's where experience pays off.

Remember: in Texas it's illegal for a contractor to waive or absorb your deductible. If someone offers, walk away.
